This privacy policy describes how the Pilskartet mobile app for Android and iOS, developed by Torgeir Øvereng, processes information when you use the app.
Pilskartet is a free app. The app contains no advertising and does not use analytics or crash reporting tools.
1. Data controller
Torgeir Øvereng is responsible for the processing of personal data related to Pilskartet.

2. Sign-in and user account
Pilskartet does not require you to create a user account or sign in.
The app therefore does not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers or sign-in information as part of normal use.
3. Information retrieved at startup
When Pilskartet starts, the app connects to a server through an API in order to retrieve up-to-date information used in the app.
During such communication, the server or the server's hosting provider will normally receive technical information such as:
- IP address
- the time of the request
- which resource or information was requested
- basic technical information included with the network request
This information is used only to deliver information to the app, ensure stable operation, detect misuse and fix technical problems.
Pilskartet does not use this information for advertising, profiling or analysis of individual users.
4. Location data
Pilskartet does not automatically request access to your location.
The app has an optional feature that can use the device's precise location. Location access occurs only when you actively choose the feature and grant permission through the operating system on your Android or iOS device.
The location is used to show or use your current position in the app's map feature. Pilskartet does not collect location in the background.
Your location is not automatically sent to Torgeir Øvereng or to Pilskartet's server.
If you choose to submit new or updated information yourself, location data or map coordinates included in the submission may be transferred to the server. This happens only after an active action by you.
You can withdraw location access at any time in the privacy or app settings on your Android or iOS device. Certain location-based features will then be unavailable.
5. OpenStreetMap
Pilskartet uses map data from OpenStreetMap.
When the map is loaded, a map service delivering OpenStreetMap data may receive technical information such as IP address, time, requested map areas and other information necessary for the network request.
This information is processed according to the privacy rules of the relevant map provider. Pilskartet does not use the information to identify or profile users.

6. Submitting new or updated information
You may voluntarily submit suggestions for new information or updates to existing information.
A submission may contain:
- map position or coordinates
- information about a place or an entry
- descriptions or corrections you write yourself
- other information you choose to include
Submitting is optional and happens only after an active action by you. You can use the app without submitting information.
Do not submit personal data about yourself or others, or other private or confidential information, unless it is necessary and you have the right to share that information.
In connection with a submission, the server may also receive IP address, time and technical information related to the request.
Submitted information is used to verify, update and improve the information available in Pilskartet.
7. Purposes of the processing
Information is processed only when necessary in order to:
- deliver the app's features
- retrieve and display up-to-date information
- display maps and optional location functionality
- receive and process voluntary suggestions and updates
- ensure stable and secure operation
- prevent misuse and investigate technical faults
The information is not used for advertising, profiling or marketing.
8. Legal basis
Processing related to the optional location feature and manual submissions takes place after you have chosen to use the feature yourself.
Access to precise location requires your permission through the operating system on your Android or iOS device. The permission can be withdrawn at any time.
Processing of limited technical information, such as IP addresses and server logs, takes place to pursue the legitimate interest of delivering, securing and maintaining the app and the server solution.
9. Sharing of information
Torgeir Øvereng does not sell personal data.
Technical information may be processed by service providers that are necessary to operate the app, including:
- the provider hosting Pilskartet's server or API
- providers of map data and map services based on OpenStreetMap
- internet and infrastructure services necessary for the communication
- Apple or Google to the extent necessary for distribution, installation and updating of the app
Information may also be disclosed if required by applicable law or by a valid order from a public authority.
10. Storage and deletion
Technical server logs are retained only for as long as necessary for operation, security, troubleshooting and prevention of misuse. The logs are deleted or anonymised when they are no longer necessary.
Information submitted manually may be retained for as long as it is relevant to Pilskartet's database and the purpose of the app. The information may be corrected, replaced or deleted if it is incorrect, outdated or no longer necessary.
Information stored only locally on the user's device is normally deleted when the app's data is cleared or the app is uninstalled.
You can contact torgeir.overeng@gmail.com if you wish to request access to, correction of or deletion of information you have submitted. It may be necessary to provide sufficient information for the relevant submission to be identified.
11. Information security
Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, alteration and misuse.
No method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
12. Children and age group
Pilskartet is intended for persons aged 18 or older.
The app is not developed or marketed for children, and Torgeir Øvereng does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
If you believe that a child has submitted personal data through the app, you can contact torgeir.overeng@gmail.com so that the information can be reviewed and, if appropriate, deleted.
13. Your rights
Where data protection legislation applies, you may, among other things, have the right to:
- receive information about the processing
- request access to personal data
- request correction or deletion
- request restriction of the processing
- object to certain forms of processing
- withdraw a consent or a permission

You may also lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) if you believe that personal data is processed in breach of data protection legislation.
14. Availability and app stores
Pilskartet may be distributed through Google Play for Android and the Apple App Store for iOS.
Google and Apple may process information in connection with downloading, installation, updating, security and use of their respective app stores. Such processing is governed by the privacy rules and terms of Google and Apple.
Pilskartet does not necessarily receive personal data that Google or Apple process as part of the app stores.
15. Changes to this privacy policy
This privacy policy may be updated if Pilskartet's features, technical solutions or processing of information change.
The date at the top of the page shows when the policy was last updated. The latest version will always be available at the same web address.
